Solutions: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Reuse/Reduce
Reusing clothes can be fun, cost effective, and very fashion forward. Check our resources below for ideas on how to reuse old clothes. Trading them in or buying used and vintage clothing can also reduce the need for more clothes manufacturing.
Recycle
Urge your city to adopt a program like San Francisco's Zero Waste Textile Initiative.
Why?
Why?
- In San Francisco 4,500 LBS of textiles are dumped into landfills every hour. Your city may have a similar rate.
- Many items of clothing are thrown out because they are not in style anymore or do not fit. These clothes can be re-purposed through tax deductible donations to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.
- You may have stores around town that buy and sell vintage or even modern clothes. Wouldn't it be better to put a few extra dollars in your pocket than to dump it in a landfill?
